Top 10 Moments of 2023

1. Federalist Indiana Abortion Industry Expose Article

After six months of researching the Indiana abortion industry, we knew we had to share our findings with the world. We began working with Students for Life and the Federalist to write a report exposing the Indiana Abortion Industry. On April 27th, the Federalist published the article “Indiana Health Dept. Sits On Records Showing Two Babies Born Alive After Abortions, Three Women Dead”. The day after the article’s release, we held a rally at Clinic for Women in Indianapolis with Students for Life to further expose the Indiana abortion industry.

2. Voices for Life Helps Pass Sanctuary Cities Ordinance

Clinic for Women Indianapolis abortion facility purchased a facility in nearby Danville, Illinois. Danville is a mere 1.5 hours from Indianapolis, making it easy for the facility to continue exploiting Hoosier women. The Danville City Council decided to examine a Sanctuary Cities Ordinance to prevent the facility from opening. During a City Council meeting that went until nearly 1 AM, we shared about the Clinic for Women’s long history of health and safety violations in Indiana. Pro-life students also attended the meeting holding signs we created that listed specific clinic violations such as: “This Clinic Failed to Sanitize Vaginal Probes.” The ordinance narrowly passed by one vote.

3. First Pro-life Church Ministry Launches

On March 4th, Vineyard Church’s Sanctity of Life Team held their kickoff event with a watch party of RETA for Life’s Spring Banquet. The team of 20 members participate in two pro-life activities a month. Since their launch, the group has trained as sidewalk advocates, assembled over 600 blessing bags, prayed outside Planned Parenthood, and reached 15,000 cars via overpass outreach. We are currently developing resources to help pro-lifers launch teams in their own churches. Email Melanie for more information.

4. Voices for Life New Office Opens

Thanks to the help of some strong volunteers, we moved from our basement office to a new 1,000+ square foot facility right down the road from the University of Notre Dame. We held an Open House Celebration on June 1st to welcome the pro-life community to our new home. The office has already hosted 11 trainings, 5 events, and numerous late night strategy sessions. Please stop by and say hello if you’re in the South Bend area! Email Melanie to schedule a tour.

5. South Bend Abortion Facility Closes

December 17th 2022 was the last day Whole Woman’s Health Alliance killed children in South Bend. While most other Indiana abortion facilities increased the number of abortions they performed to accommodate out of State traffic in 2023, Whole Woman’s Health did not perform any abortions. In June, the facility announced their official closure. The building is now for sale. We credit the clinic’s premature closure to the prayers of so many faithful pro-lifers around our community and the faithful witness of the sidewalk advocacy team.

6. Dobbs Day of Action Launch

We brainstormed how we wanted to commemorate the first anniversary of Dobbs Decision on June 24th 2023. We settled on our Dobbs Day of Action which engaged the local pro-life community in our overpass and door to door outreach followed by a meal at our office to celebrate this year’s pro-life victories. We want to celebrate, but also remind people that the work of the pro-life movement is just beginning. We were able to reach 5,000 cars with the pro-life message and 100s of homes with our door to door team. Save the date for our Dobbs Day of Action this year on June 22nd 2024!

7. Exposing Clinic for Women Abortion Facility

A few weeks after the SEA1 went into effect, Voices for Life received a tip that the Clinic for Women abortion facility was shutting down permanently. We passed on the information to RNM reporter Clifton French who called the facility posing as a transgender man seeking an abortion. The employee who took his call, Bridget Bridgeworth, told French he could purchase the drugs illegally from her at her home. RNM published the phone call and the story made national news. We held a rally with Students for Life Action in Indianapolis demanding prosecution of the crime. The case is still under investigation by Attorney General Todd Rokita.

8. Door to Door Outreach Expansion

With legal abortion heavily restricted in Indiana, we know the fight is now the harder one: changing the culture. Our door to door team has reached 5,500 doors in St. Joseph County area having 1,500 conversations about abortion. We want to expand this outreach throughout Indiana to create widespread cultural change. Our team worked all summer developing a training based on feedback from our seasoned canvassers, and we are now promoting the outreach throughout the State. Email  Melanie to bring the outreach to your community.

9. Indiana’s Abortion Ban Goes Into Effect

In June 2023, the Indiana Supreme Court upheld Indiana’s abortion ban allowing the legislation to go into effect on August 1st. We spent the month before the ban went into effect mobilizing pro-life presence outside abortion facilities as clinics performed as many abortions as they could–we sidewalk counseled at Planned Parenthood Merrillville, Women’s Med, and Clinic for Women. Our Executive Director, Melanie, recalls sidewalk counseling at Clinic for Women during that time and recalls, “the lot was so full cars were spilling out into the street.” We are so grateful the ban is now in effect preventing most legal abortion in our State.

10. Three Babies Born Alive From Abortion Procedures

Some of the most chilling discoveries we make in examining terminated pregnancy reports are babies born alive after apparent illegal abortions. The pro-abortion movement argues this never happens, but our team uncovered three instances of this happening in 2023 alone:

Dr. Ester Kim delivered a baby born alive at Riley Hospital on February 17th. The baby lived for three hours.

Dr. Sarah Morgan delivered a baby boy born alive after a chemical abortion at Riley Maternity Tower on June 22nd. The baby lived for 6 hours and 3 minutes.

Dr. Brownsyne Edmonds delivered a baby born alive after a chemical abortion at Eskenazi Hospital on July 15th. The baby lived for 2 hours and 28 minutes.
