Commemorating Dobbs

Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization

June 24th marks the anniversary of the Supreme Court ruling on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. This landmark case overturned the 1973 case, Roe v. Wade, which established a federal right to abortion in the United States. Upon its ruling, Roe was immediately bookmarked as the monumental challenge that the pro-life movement had to overcome to effectively ensure the preborn child’s right to life, and when the ruling was overturned in 2022, the movement was overwhelmed with tears of joy and celebration.

Now, two years later, Voices for Life is able to fight for life in a country where elective abortion is not codified in our national Constitution. However, our stance continues to be one of vigilance and active efforts to completely terminate abortion in Indiana. Post Roe, our work is not done.

We currently await a ruling on the ACLU of Indiana’s lawsuit against the Indiana Abortion Ban (SEA-1). This lawsuit claims that the Ban’s “Health or Life Exception” is too vague to be useful, and seeks to expand its scope to include exceptions for health conditions that could become life-threatening if a pregnancy is not aborted, for mothers who are undergoing medical treatment which could harm the baby, and for people with mental health conditions.

Voices for Life also has its own lawsuit against the Indiana Department of Health for withholding abortion reports, which are necessary to ensure that SEA-1 is being enforced and public health codes are being followed by abortionists.

These important cases will be the deciding factor for many preborn lives, and the lives of their mothers.

While we rejoice in the upcoming anniversary of Dobbs v. Jackson and the step towards the abortion free future it represents, this celebration must be one of renewed vigor and determination for the prolife movement in Indiana and every area of the United States of America.

Post Roe, our work is not done.

If you would like to join volunteer efforts to commemorate the second year after Dobbs v. Jackson and kick off the third, come to Dobbs Day of Action on Saturday, June 22nd! We will have teams of volunteers spreading a message of life in South Bend and will have a potluck afterwards!
