Let’s make a difference through love.

By Paula Lent

Last year, I had the honor of creating a short documentary on Voices for Life for a film class. For several years, my motto in journalism has been: Look for the Lord and make Him known. The darkness in the world around us can sometimes seem pervasive. Where is the Lord in all of it? Where is his light breaking through?

While conducting the interviews for this film, I saw the Lord in multiple ways. I saw Him in Eoin, weeping for the thousands of children whose lost lives have been honored at the National Memorial for the Unborn; and I saw Him in Eoin’s determination to do whatever he could to prevent more lives from being lost. I saw the Lord in Melanie’s righteous indignation at our culture which has created a twisted rhetoric around killing innocent lives in the name of female empowerment. And I saw him in her compassion for all the mothers who are facing difficult, irrevocable choices which will impact their lives forever.

And, I saw the Lord in the many faces that flash by at the end of the film, showcasing our amazing volunteer community who are committed to making a change in our culture.

I believe God weeps with Eoin, with all his children –  with the mothers, the fathers, the family members who have been touched by a life lost to abortion. But his heart wants to do more than grieve; He wants to draw near; and to lovingly redeem.

The hundreds of Voices for Life volunteers and supporters who selflessly give of their time and talent represent a light breaking through. They serve as the hands, feet, and voices of Jesus, drawing near, in personal ways, to the vulnerable and the hurting, offering life-giving and life-saving compassion and resources.

As Jackie and Tony share in the film, Voices’ volunteers are incredibly active in the community – through Door-to-Door Outreach, Sidewalk Counseling, Overpass Outreach, and parish, school and community outreaches as well. And this action is necessary, as women continue to turn to abortion pills and out-of-state referrals in order to take the lives of their children.

Abortion has created a deep wound in our culture, one of unfathomable loss and violence. But the stories are not over.

I hope you’ll enjoy learning more about the work that Voices for Life is doing to address the needs and issues in our current abortion climate, and that you’ll be inspired to offer your time and talent in order to bring light, hope, and mercy to those who need it most. Our world is hurting. Let’s make a difference through love.
